How to Send a Document Package for E-Signature
How to Send a Document Package for E-Signature
A document package allows you to bundle multiple legal documents together and send them to your client for signature. The client receives one link, reviews all documents, and signs once — applying their signature to every document in the package.
---
STEP 1 — OPEN THE INTAKE OR CASE
Navigate to the intake or case you want to send documents for. Click on the "Legal Docs" tab inside the intake record, or the "Documents" tab inside the case.
---
STEP 2 — CREATE A DOCUMENT PACKAGE
Click "Manage Documents" then select "Create Package".
Give the package a name — for example:
"Onboarding Package — Maria Rodriguez"
---
STEP 3 — SELECT DOCUMENTS TO INCLUDE
Check the documents you want to include in the package. Common documents for a new plaintiff client include:
- Retainer / Fee Agreement
- HIPAA Authorization
- Medical Records Release
- Insurance Authorization
- Electronic Communication Consent
You can include as many documents as needed. The client will review and sign all of them in one session.
---
STEP 4 — REVIEW AND SEND
Click "Create & Review" to preview the package before sending.
Once you are satisfied, click "Send Package". Lextiff will:
- Email the signing link to the client
- Send an SMS notification to the client's phone number
- Log the exact time the package was sent
---
STEP 5 — TRACK SIGNING STATUS
After sending, you can monitor the package status in real time:
Sent — Package delivered to client
Viewed — Client opened the signing link
Opened — Client reviewed the documents
Signed — Client completed signing
Completed — All documents signed and saved to the record
You will receive an in-app notification the moment the client signs.
---
STEP 6 — SIGNED DOCUMENTS
Once signed, Lextiff automatically:
- Saves the signed PDF to the intake or case record
- Emails a copy of the signed documents to the client
- Generates a full audit log showing the timestamp, IP address, and signing sequence
---
SENDING A SINGLE DOCUMENT
If you only need to send one document rather than a package, go to the document, click the three-dot menu, and select "Send for Signature". The client receives a single document link and signs only that document.
---
SIGNATURE REMINDERS
If the client has not signed within 24 hours, Lextiff will automatically send a reminder to the client by email and SMS. You can also manually resend the package from the package detail screen.
---
COMMON QUESTIONS
Q: Does the client need to create an account to sign?
A: No. Clients sign directly from the link sent to their email or phone. No account or app download is required.
Q: Can I send documents before the retainer is signed?
A: Yes. You can send any document at any stage. However, we recommend sending the retainer first so the client relationship is formally established.
Q: What happens if the client uses the wrong email?
A: You can resend the package to a corrected email address from the package detail screen. The original link will remain active.
Q: Is the e-signature legally valid?
A: Yes. Lextiff e-signatures comply with the ESIGN Act and UETA. Each signed document includes a timestamped audit certificate with the signer's IP address and signing sequence.
